Mid-Summer Roundup

With summer nearly halfway over, it’s hard to believe that next month I’ll be entering my final year as a senior at the University of Florida. Though the summer has flown by, and it feels like I just got back from my semester in Israel, there have been some exciting moments.

As an editorial intern at Moment Magazine, I’ve been getting an inside look at how the independent magazine industry runs. From editorial meetings, community outreach and ad sales– I have learned a lot. Not to mention, I’ve also gotten the chance to write some interesting and well-versed pieces for the magazine’s blog. Check out my work on Tel Aviv’s largest Shabbat dinner, Jewish online dating and more, here.

I’ve also become a recent Skimmbassador for my newest obsession, theSkimm. For those of you who haven’t heard, theSkimm is your need-to-know for the day. Filling you in on the latest and most important headlines, you’ll never miss a beat (even in between meetings and coffee breaks). Get the scoop and sign up here.

Finally, check out some of my favorite eats and treats of the summer so far.

Back to Business

Hello everyone! After a lengthy hiatus filled with summer vacation, an internship at Women’s Health Magazine and my junior year at UF beginning, I am happy to be back and blogging. Over the past six months, some pretty exciting moments occurred.

To begin with, my summer internship at Women’s Health Magazine in NYC was unforgettable. As a fashion/edit intern, I worked directly with the associate fashion editor and a slew of other amazing people. On a daily basis I communicated with tons of designers and PR companies and helped organize and account for all clothing, jewelry and accessory samples. Let’s just say, I was in heaven. The highlights of my internship included  attending a fitness photo shoot and a private appointment at Nanette Lepore. I even got to work on a weight loss column that appears in the magazine each month!

After living in the big city for nine weeks, and becoming a true New Yorker, it was time to head back to Gainesville, Fla., for my junior year. A little more than a month in, this school year has been anything but slow. As part of one of my journalism classes, I am a news reporter for WUFT. Writing weekly stories relating to residents in North Central Florida, I’ve gotten to learn about some pretty neat topics from impoverished school systems to evolving community projects. My time thus far has given me some great experience as an investigative reporter. Check out my stories here: http://www.wuft.org/news/author/jennifer-cole/

When I’m not reporting, I’ve been busy organizing my five-month trip to Israel. Yes, that’s right, beginning in January I will be spending my semester abroad in Tel Aviv. I am beyond excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to be immersed into the culture.

It’s been a hectic start to my semester, but I am thrilled to be starting up my blog again. Stay tuned for weekly posts about food, lifestyle, fashion, health and more!
